The 30-year-old Ashley Yeates decided to build a “hobbit hole” in the garden together with his girlfriend, a project that took almost a year. After a tree died in the garden, he decided to use that hole for this new project.
Many people wondered if the house was waterproof. Yeates explains the waterproofing procedure on his blog: “We made a strong internal wooden frame, the corrugated iron was used to seal everything, and then all the seams were finished with many watertight barriers.” The floor is poured with concrete to create a beautiful, clean finish on the inside”. Wondering what that looks like?
A sturdy construction is essential for this hobbit house!
Grass is laid on the roof, so that the house disappears into the ground.
